Senior Photos all tied up!

Jakob and his mom met me at the studio on Halloween for his senior photo session – and didn’t mind that I showed up with crows on branches for eyebrows. Truth be told I had been waiting 3 months to have my eyebrows painted like that – and only used Halloween as an excuse to walk around like that.

Jakob brought along his trumpet and some of his fencing gear. I love when seniors bring ideas and items from their life. We had a pretty good time trying to figure out how to tie a tie (thank you stranger off the street for coming to my rescue), walking around the studio area. A big thanks to Jakob for being brave enough to play the trumpet on the street!

Oh how I have missed you blog… tales of a weary high school senior protrait photographer

it’s been close to a month since I have posted even a tiny bit here. I feel as if I’ve neglected my little blog. I have oodles of senior photos to share and I will be going through the past weeks photos and posting some new shots of the great seniors I had the honor of working with this fall. And as a special treat, I will do a post where I will spin tales of boys and their sock wardrobe malfunctions. Don’t worry fellas, I won’t tell any names.

Grants Pass 2012 Pin-ups Love Pound Pups Calendar is here!

I am excited to announce the 2012 PAWS calendar is now available and one of my photos was selected as the cover. I had so much fun during the shoots for this group of dog heroes er heroines! I feel lucky and honored to be a part of their project. These gals make such a huge difference in the lives of others not only 4-leggers but us 2-leggers too.

The calendars are being sold for $10. You can arrange to buy one from me or visit their website.

Check them out on facebook.

Jonathan – HV Senior

Can I just yell it from the Grants Pass roof tops er.. my office chair.. that this guy is the real deal. When I type out real deal, I mean he’s real. Genuine. and the bonus? the camera loves him. I sooo needed to meet some nice people and he was definitely the answer.

We shot at a few places; the Caveman Pool [he's captain of the HV swim team], Baker Park, and the Havoc Door. Special thanks to Nina for holding my reflector, making me laugh as always and giving Jonathan those little tips along the way. You both rock!

Lydia – Peek-a-Roo

Summer didn’t really come until Lydia’s session, it was a full 100 degrees after 5pm during our session together. This girl can definitely keep her cool in heat and all sorts of situations; walking through black berry infested tall grass, stepping in muck [sooo sorry about those shoes! I hope they came clean in the wash], rickety benches, and getting hollered at across North Applegate Road. She was just beautiful no matter what I put her through. :)

I found the easiest way to get her to laugh was to ask her to be serious. I really don’t think she has a serious bone in her body. She’s way too full of fun and laughter for any of that serious nonsense.

I’m really glad that I got to be the one to take her senior photos… THANK YOU!

Nina- Sneak Peak

Anyone who has ever met me could probably tell you I am rarely at a loss for words… I always have some sort of story to go with about everything. For me, life is just a bunch of funny stories set to the sound track in my head and lived out daily.

Even with all that, I can only string words together about this girl. Funny. Daring. Sassy [yes, I used that word], gorgeous, animated, make that very animated. And I’m not just typing that because I want her to take me for a spin in the Porsche ..

Nina and her mom are a great pair and I’m beyond happy they called me for Nina’s senior photos.

Ashland or bust

Yesterday my Grants Pass Senior Rep, Alyssa, and I took a little road trip over to Ashland for another shoot. I haven’t really shot a senior session there. I’ve mainly shot the area’s landscape and the cemetery along with wandered around. I love the light around Ashland, it’s as good as or better than the light in Applegate. It’s as if the clouds part just for those two places in Southern Oregon.

I have to admit it was hard to concentrate at times with the scent of fresh breads and pastries wafting through the air from the bakeries surrounding where we decided to shoot. My thought process went a little like this: light meter. brownies. aperture. yum. brownies. hungry. shutter speed.

Time Travel

Thanks to a fellow photographer [thank you Heather], I was given the opportunity to meet and photograph an awesome family this past weekend. By awesome I mean the type of family that when you meet them you wish you were family too or you wish your family was just a little more like them.

The idea was to re-create a family photo they had done in the past and then come back the next night and re-create the photo again but with them in 1920′s costume. All I had to hear was costume and I was in. After the family photo we did some quick individual shots.

This was also the quickest, most organized, cooperative group of 17 people I have ever photographed.

On the Rogue

Last weekend we finally got our acts together and went camping – I love to go sans tent and just sleep under the stars.

Normally, we camp up at Farewell Bend just past Union Creek but this time we stopped a bit shy of Union Creek and stayed in the Woodruf Bridge area along the Rogue. The camp ground was awesome and empty – strange for this time of year. [turns out where we stopped is a day use area but no one bothered us so we slept there anyway.. such rebels].

The trails are nice there -well maintained with only a few over grown areas where we had to karate chop our way through wild flowers and grasses. Rick caught his share of fish and had a great time. Of course, every catch he made, I threw in the old, “you are going to let it go, right?” He was pretty good about releasing them-only kept two, which he said were goners anyway since they swallowed the hook.

It was a nice relaxing time which allowed me to tackle one of my favorite subjects – blades of grass. Plus, I got to play with bubbles and a one year old. I am not sure who had more fun, her or me.
